Brittany, the birthland of Atelier Materi

Brittany is where Atelier Materi begins. It is the birthplace of the Maison’s founder and the land that naturally anchors its identity. A land of contrasts, shaped by sea and stone, it has deeply influenced the vision and aesthetic of Atelier Materi. Every creation, every object carries this imprint. In this article, we invite you to discover this founding inspiration and the way Breton landscapes infuse the universe of the Maison, from fragrance to object.

At Atelier Materi, everything begins in Brittany. It is in this north-western region of France that the founder of Atelier Materi was born, and it is there that the soul of the Maison is naturally rooted. A place where nature speaks without artifice. Here, the landscapes are raw, powerful, mineral. Cliffs face the ocean, elements meet without compromise. This force, both wild and authentic, has profoundly shaped the vision of Atelier Materi: that of a discreet, essential form of luxury, free from ostentation, and faithful to strong human, social and environmental values.

The name of the Maison reflects its origins. Materi means “matter” in Breton. An obvious, intentional choice. Here, matter is central: raw material, olfactory material, artisanal material. Each creation is born from matter in its most raw and authentic form, selected for its strength and singularity. Matter is shaped with precision and brought to the forefront of minimalist, powerful and textured compositions, much like the Brittany that inspires them.

This inspiration is also expressed through the object. The bottle, with its deep midnight-blue hue, evokes the ocean after a storm. Its concrete cap, entirely handcrafted by an artisan in France, echoes the mineral character of Brittany’s cliffs. Its soft, organic shape recalls a pebble smoothed by the waves, shaped over time by the elements.

The Extraits de Parfum collection offers another interpretation of this landscape. Here, the cap is finished in golden metal, inspired by the golden hour, that fleeting moment when the setting sun casts warm reflections across the sea. Its subtly irregular texture, reminiscent of grains of sand, gives each piece its own singularity.

From nature to matter, from fragrance to object, Brittany infuses every detail of Atelier Materi and continues to guide the Maison in each of its creations.
